Farm-to-Food Assistance Program Grant Coordinator

About Ithaca Farmers Market

The Ithaca Farmers Market, located in Ithaca, NY, is a member-run cooperative market which has been providing access to locally produced goods since 1973. Our market has over 150 active agriculture, artisan, and food vendors. IFM is partnering with Cornell’s FIG Lab on a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA) grant to maintain and improve food and agricultural supply chain resiliency in New York State through farm-to-food assistance distribution. 

Grant Goals

  • Support local and traditionally disadvantaged farmers/producers by building and expanding economic opportunities and creating new marketing channels.
  • Establish and broaden partnerships between New York farmers/producers and the food distribution community and local food networks to ensure distribution of fresh nutritious foods in rural, remote, and/or underserved areas.
  • Improve food access for underserved communities by tailoring free food distribution to unique local challenges.

Position Description

The Farm-to-Food Assistance Program Grant Coordinator will lead the Project Steering Group to develop internal goals for the program and ensure that program metrics are met while creating a community of vendors and external partners who can effectively collaborate with the Cornell FIG lab. The Grant Coordinator will also handle reporting and administration in conjunction with the IFM Organizational Manager.

Seasonal Customer Service Associate

Do you love the Ithaca Farmers Market? Are you looking for hourly work this summer? The Ithaca Farmers Market is a great place to work if you love all things local, getting outside, and keeping busy !

We are looking for motivated, proactive, and responsible individuals who are excited about supporting local businesses, maintaining a welcoming environment for all stakeholders and are willing to help out with a variety of tasks. Employment is expected to run approximately April – November, with the possibility of continuing through December. Beginning pay is $16.00 per hour. Shifts are usually half-day but may be full-day (with time off for lunch) when necessary.

Daily duties may include setting up and breaking down market, greeting customers, selling merchandise using the Square POS system, handling trash, assisting the Zero Waste Project staff with handling reusable dishes, and/or other duties as assigned. Ability to lift 25 lb boxes and carry them short distances, and/or pull a cart with full boxes of merchandise on it, moving merchandise to and from our on-site storage each day will be required, as well as an openness to learning new systems, excellent communication and organization, and ability to thrive in a fast paced environment. For a more extensive list of hours, duties, and qualifications, see the complete 2024 Customer Service Associate Job Description.

Individuals who are interested in or available to work one day per weekend are encouraged to apply. Occasional weekends off can be arranged with advanced notice. Preference will be given to candidates who can work the majority of the season.

Zero Waste Project Assistant

Are you interested in helping to reduce the waste from single use disposables going to the landfill?  Do you love working outside in a warm and friendly community setting? 

Ithaca Farmers Market is looking for a motivated and responsive individual to join the Zero Waste Project reusable dish program team to help reduce waste and increase sustainability at market. Employment is expected to run approximately late April – mid November. Pay is $18 per hour. Work is on Saturday and/or Sunday up to 15 hours per week.

Daily duties will include delivering clean dishes to participating vendors, setting up and monitoring dish return and customer compost stations, scraping and pre-washing dishes, retrieving buckets of food scraps from prepared food vendors, and running dishes through a commercial dishwasher at a nearby kitchen after market closes. Ability to work with post-consumer dishes and food scraps and to adjust work pace when needed is important.
