Beginning on April 19. 2025, we will allow some customers park in designated areas in our parking lot during Market hours only, and we will have some overflow parking spaces available at the Arnot site next door. If you can, please plan to park at the DMV lot on 3rd Street and walk over, or at another public parking lot nearby. DO NOT PARK IN THE MARKETVIEW APARTMENTS, ALDI, OR B&W RESTAURANT SUPPLY LOTS – YOU WILL BE CITED AND TOWED.

Parking Lot Project Construction Updates
Last updated April 15, 2025

April 2025 map showing different areas customers may need to know about!
When we reopen on April 19, 2025, we will have a portion of our lot available for customers, as well as overflow parking in the lot next door. We have signs directing traffic, with caution tape and fences protecting the trees and plants we’re keeping during the project, or showing you which areas are not safe to go through. Please follow all posted signs, for your own safety and that of our construction crew!
Please note:
- Our construction team is hard at work! Construction workers will be on site Monday through Friday.
- Our lot is closed Monday through Friday. It will be open for Market customers only on Saturdays in April, as well as Saturdays and Sundays in May and June.
- There are some exposed pipes and open areas in the parking lot (clearly marked with caution tape) that have not yet been filled in. We are not responsible for any damage to your vehicle or person if you choose to enter the lot while it is closed to the public.
You can still get to the lake side of our Pavilion and our picnic area by using the Waterfront Trail and Cayuga Lake. Please feel free to walk, run, bike, and hike the trail; sail in to our dock at Steamboat Landing, or kayak in to our kayak launch point!
DO NOT DRIVE ON, PARK ON, OR BLOCK THE WATERFRONT TRAIL OR THE ACCESS TRAIL WHICH RUNS ALONG THE EXIT LANE FROM THE PAVILION. POLICE AND FIRE VEHICLES NEED USE THIS ACCESS TRAIL IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.
Our landscaping crew is planning our Summer planting, including sourcing native trees and plants from local suppliers!
- The fruiting trees that were removed from the site were largely ornamental exotics (non-native) species such as Crab Apples and Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana)., as well as a high percentage of invasive species such as Barberry (Berberis thunbergii), Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus), Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), and Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica).
- While birds often find these exotic and invasive trees to be an attractive source of food, they are not ideal habitat compared with native species. In the case of invasives, it is often the birds that do the most to propagate these harmful plants by distributing their seeds far and wide.
- YES there is a plan to replace the trees and shrubs that were removed with a robust native plant palette, full of fruiting shrubs and trees that the birds will appreciate.
- Proposed planting plans were approved by the City Forester and are on file with the City of Ithaca Planning Department.
